The last Living Rose

The world calls it pleasure. My Uncle collects it – keeps it neat. Keeps it ordered, on guarded shelves; but keeps it strangely – not for its own sake, no, never for that, rather, as it provides fuel for the satisfying of curious lust.

‘The Lustful Turk’, my Uncle might say, looking up from his papers. ‘Where do we have it?’

‘We have it here, Uncle’, I will answer. For within a year I know the place of every book upon his shelves. I know the plan of his great index – his Universal Bibliography of Priapus and Venus. For to Priapus and Venus he has devoted me, as other girls are apprenticed to the needle or the loom.
        Fingersmith by Sarah Waters

The Collector: I have started drawing again after a really, really long break. Lose leaf, smaller and more direct than usual I printed them into a small collection/zine. A collection of drawings about collecting erotic images, memories and fantasies. I offered five copies to the kind people of twitter and the zines were dispatched.

I havnt really thought about further distribution but if you are likely to see me in real life and would like one, just let me know. I’m still making them.

In the mean time I am adding to this collection of paintings that includes the erotic, strange and the performer while continuing with the Circus paintings.

Paintings: The last living rose 2011, oil on canvas, 30x30cm. Memento 2011, oil on canvas, 12x17cm. Donkey ears 2011, oil on canvas, 30x30cm. Keepsake 2011, oil on canvas, 30x30cm.
The Collector (i) 2011, six pages: inkjet print and pencil on paper, A6.
