the space between: also~and.

This weekend I visited THE SPACE BETWEEN exhibit in St Pancras crypt…I loved it and I havnt forgotten to blog about it, but I am waiting for images of the work in situ, as it is vital to what I want to say about the work, particularly since I visited the exhibit with some one who had some interesting insights that I also want to share. So its important that the images link with the experience of the work that we had…..So while I wait I will share a few thoughts and images from the studio.

So whats been happening for me? well I have some drawings and a painting heading over to the NHS (more on that later) but its a good thing. Painting continues: punctuated by extended periods of thinking~mainly in circles, but its important, regardless of its shape.

In fact I am heading back into a period of research and looking. I have come up against a couple of barriers within my practice of late and I plan to smash them down or work around them~either way its going to take a bit of time. I know its needed but I often begrudge, as a maker, giving over that time and space to what can often feel hugely unproductive.

As a taster, here’s a snapshot of what I see.

The space between

In a world where we can be here, there and everywhere, where there is the promise that we can be anyone or anything if only we try hard enough, are good enough, we increasingly find ourselves in a Space Between. A space between being and becoming: a place of transformation and translation, rich with longing, melancholy and fantasy. A space that calls not for representation but presentation, for who knows what we are or what we might become? The act of presentation in/from the Space Between allows us to reflect on these oscillating states of being, providing a moment’s pause to stop and contemplate the state of flux in which we live. I am looking forward to this exhibit with special interest in Kate McCgwire. This sculptor explores the beauty of objects that are commonly thought to have none, placing them in uncomfortable situations.
